For 27 years, Paula taught High School Theatre. During that time, she continually saw the therapeutic benefits of students in the theatre program.  As she made the decision to change careers, she focused on the universal need to belong and have purpose. So began a journey of therapeutic theatre through drama therapy training. 

 

Through drama therapy training, came the realization of the necessity of creativity and play to mental wellness.  Therefore, she continued her education to attain an MA in professional counseling.  Also realizing the connection between mind and body to heal trauma, she completed a yearlong training through The Trauma Center at JRI in body-based trauma modalities.

As a therapist, she works with adolescents and adults in private practice, specializing in helping adult clients navigate life transitions. She has experience working at Youth In Need working with youth and their families. Many of these families are found families through foster care and adoption. Understanding and navigating the unique emotional issues in adoptive families has been an incredible journey. She also directs drama workshops at the Independence Center which focuses on adults with mental health diagnoses.
